Pronunciation /h/

The Spanish pronounce the "h" in:

• ham as in jamón
• heaven as in Gema
• hippy as in gitano
• horse as in joven
• hungry as in jaula

But this is bad pronunciation!!!!! Start practicing the /h/ sound. Listen to it (number44) here. It is a soft sound; not a hard sound. Listen to the above words in the pronunciation dicitionary in the blog.

By the way (Por cierto), jamón in English is ham /haem/ and mermelada is jam /d3aem/.

Practice these words that start with "h". Listen to them in the pronunciation dicitionary.

Then write the words using the words or symbols (difficult on computer) from the phoemic script in your books. For example:

hair: house, chair
half: house, car, flower /ha:f/
his: house, fish, zebra /hIz/
hotel: house, phone, tie, egg, leg

By the way, hotel has the stress on the second syllable (ho'tel). The stressed syllable has an apostrophe' before it in your dictionaries.

Check the phonetic spelling in your dicitionaries. Listen to the sounds of the symbols individually.

This is hard work but I would like you to think more about your pronunciation. It is very important to pronounce well.
